Community Governance at Sandy Hill CHC
Sandy Hill Community Health Centre (SHCHC) is governed by a community-based Board of Directors. The Board provides strategic oversight and helps ensure that the Centre remains accountable, responsive and focused on the needs of the communities we serve.
Our Board brings together community members with diverse lived experiences, perspectives, skills and areas of expertise. Directors contribute to the effective governance of SHCHC, including oversight of strategic direction, organizational performance, quality and financial stewardship.
SHCHC periodically recruits community members to serve on its Board of Directors. Recruitment is based on the needs and composition of the Board and may take place in preparation for the Annual General Meeting or when vacancies arise during the year. SHCHC is committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of its work, including Board recruitment.
Nomination and Election Process
The Nominations and Governance Committee supports the recruitment and nomination of potential Board Directors.
Before recruiting, the Board reviews its current composition, upcoming vacancies and the skills, experience and perspectives that would strengthen the Board.
When recruitment is open, interested candidates are invited to submit an application. As part of the selection process, the Nominations and Governance Committee reviews candidates in accordance with SHCHC's Board Nomination and Election Policy. The process may include an application review, reference check and an interview with members of the Committee.
The Nominations and Governance Committee develops a recommended slate of candidates. Board Directors are elected by SHCHC's corporate membership at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with the Centre's By-laws and Board Nomination and Election Policy.
Recruitment may also take place when a vacancy arises between Annual General Meetings, in accordance with SHCHC's governance requirements.
