ABOUT SANDY HILL

About Sandy Hill

Good health means more than just treating people when they are sick. Problems like poverty, addiction, and family violence can bring on illness – or keep people from getting well. At Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, we treat illness when it arises. We also work hard to create a healthy community so that people stay well and get the most out of life. We believe in:

INTEGRITY | RESPECT | EQUITY | COLLABORATION | EMPATHY

Our Purpose & Direction

Our Mission

To deliver excellence in person-centred primary care, social services, and community well-being.

Our Vision

Everyone in our community will have equitable access to health and well-being.

Core Values

The following values guide the behaviours of the entire organization, including the staff, board members and volunteers, in how we interact with clients, partners, stakeholders, as well among colleagues.

Our Community

We serve individuals and families who live or work in Sandy Hill and Ottawa East, and provide specialized services to all residents of the broader Ottawa region.

Organizational Culture

SHCHC has a very strong and healthy organizational culture. This is made possible by a board that supports and encourages the Centre’s core values and commitment to client centred services. Underlying all programs and services at SHCHC is a strong philosophy of helping clients take charge of their own health and community.

Strategic Objectives

SHCHC maintains strategic goals, both individually and collaboratively with the 5 other Community Health Centres in the Ottawa Region, to guide choices that we make as an organization.

Diversity Statement

As a public primary health care institution, Sandy Hill Community Health Centre has a responsibility to provide a welcoming environment that recognizes and affirms diversity of persons as well as diversity of views. An inclusive environment allows us to enhance the quality of healthcare we provide, improve relations with our community and contribute to the improvement of the community’s health.

We affirm this commitment to diversity by supporting everyone we serve whatever their characteristics, including race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, age, socioeconomic background, language, religion, sexual orientation, and disability.

We encourage staff, volunteers, clients, and community members to work together to make our community health centre a welcoming place for all.

Our Board

The call for nominations for the SHCHC Board of Directors is now closed, and we thank you for participating in this year’s recruitment for SHCHC Board of Directors.

The Nominations and Governance Committee will present a Slate of Nominees for election to the Board at the Annual General Meeting in June. Directors must be elected from the Slate of Nominees and nominations will not be accepted from the floor. Members are elected to the Board of Directors for a two-year term up to a maximum of three terms.

Recruitment is typically held every year in early spring, to allow the Nominations and Governance Committee enough time to select the eligible candidates for election at the Annual General Meeting at the end of June.

Our board members represent community residents, clients, and generally reflect the population of the community served. Learn more about our board members, read board minutes from recent meetings and find out how to get involved as a volunteer.

SHCHC Award for Excellence in Health Promotion

from 2007 to 2022

From 2007 until 2022, the Sandy Hill CHC recognized outstanding contributions to the promotion of health in our community as well as those who have supported others during the pandemic, and we were proud to honour those whose activities and initiatives have contributed to improving the health and wellness of our community.

The award is currently discontinued, but retiring the award in no way precludes the Board of Directors from recognizing community initiatives, efforts and individuals in other ways (e.g., letters of commendation or recognition). For more information, contact Cristina Coiciu, the Executive Assistant, at ccoiciu@sandyhillchc.on.ca.
